Our Classes – What to Expect

Our after school classes are about building confidence, developing drama skills and making friends. Each week, we focus on a different area of theatrical technique, such as shaking off nerves, projection and stage craft. We play fun drama games and also develop our singing skills by learning a song which we work on each week. We encourage the children to develop their imaginations and devise their own stories and characters through creative play.

We have an overarching theme for each term; this term is MAGIC! All of our games/exercises and our songs have a magic twist to them in keeping with this theme.

We work towards a showcase at the end of term, to which we invite friends and family to see what we’ve achieved.

We tailor our classes to the children we have and our objective, no matter the specific activity, is to build confidence. So everyone should feel very welcome and encouraged!

What's in a name?

We chose our name, Beginners to Stage!, because it has a fun and pleasing double meaning.

It is both, a bold invitation to drama novices, AND a phrase that is recognisable to theatre actors which essentially means - "it's show time!".

"ACT 1 BEGINNERS TO STAGE PLEASE!"

This is the "beginners" call, and it's the final call that actors hear from the Stage Manager before the show begins. It's a hugely exciting and significant moment which draws the rehearsal and preparation period to a final close and makes way for the performances, finally live and for real!

We want to share the excitement captured in this call with every child, whether they’re total beginners or seasoned little stars.
